The Mash-up evolved

Witness this You Tube mash up of online instructional videos for various musical instruments and simply fill your boots with awe.

It would be smart enough even if it weren't so goddamn groovy, but with this delivering the clever and the funk in such high measure... Set phasers to 'props' and aim that shit at Kutiman.

Genius.

Keep th' funk,

The Future of Online Music has become clear

Shit. Alive.

This you won't believe. Watch and curl into a foetal position, shaking your head and breathing hard. Microsoft developers have created SongSmith. A true challenger to Garage Band, this product that allows you to just sing into a PC and the programme will then create the backing track and produce your song - much as Mighty Mouse or Brian Eno would if you went to them with a vocal.

Thing is... Microsoft don't think this is such a great product. So they won't push it out there. BUT the developers - they know better, so they have put together their own commercial and put it out there. Enough from me - just watch. And remember - you can buy this:

So, that's clearly a turkey. The worst advert of all time for the worst product ever shat out of a programmer's fuzzy noggin.

The natural reaction is - what were they thinking??? Indeed Adam and Joe on 6Music found this and have pretty much made the point that this is either a work of such sophisticated irony that it transcends humanity's previous boundaries - or... or... Or it's the biggest pile of shit EVER made.

But look again. Look around YouTube. Look and you will see the masterplan unfold. This has tapped into the fun market unlike any product since Twister, and the parodies are streaming in. This is going to be HUGE!

Watch Radiohead's opus Creep - as played through Songsmith:

Now witness The Police's Roxanne

Are you beginning to get the picture? People are going to BUY THIS so they can make whole Songsmith tribute albums! Imagine OK Computer entirely revisioned and remastered by SongSmith. Imagine Jay-Z's Black Album; imagine Sgt. Pepper's Lonley Hearts Club Band.

Actually - you don't have to. You can hear it here:

I'm downloading this. And I'm going to SongSmith the complete works of Morissey and The Smiths. Then The Dead Kennedys.

Still got doubts? Oh, please! - I give you Wonderwall:

Keep th' faith!

Yi Ar Kung Fu

Yi Ar Kung Fu
So a while ago a friend and I recorded: Yi Ar Kung Fu for a laugh. Turns out it got played on XFM radio last night as part of a competition. Go figure.

Essentially it's a one minute celebration of rock, kung fu and old 80s video games. If you like it you can vote for it. If not, well, I don't blame you one bit.

The 'site' is basically a blog with nothing but the song and written lyrics. You have to respect us for being so single bloody minded!

Hedkandi girls getting to be as thin as the musical oeuvre they represent

Surely things have gone awry at Hedkandi Heights? The girls are getting terrifyingly thin - even by geek-boy comics/designer standards. The artist clearly has developed an ink anorexia:

I mean, look at this poor chickerature of a woman. E, K, Coke, Redbull and Kerosene - forget it! There's no way on earth this girl could sustain a serious evening's relationship with a dancefloor without keeling over and shattering into a thousand splinters. Swimming? Granted, perhaps she'd be ok; she's got the flippers and would likely cut through the water like a marlin, but any real world landlubber physical stuff...? I'm thinking Newton's Laws and I'm thinking no.

Was it ever thus? Has Hedkandi always been touting the famine chic? I guess so. But, ok - these ladies look skinny, but, the swimwear lady above really puts the bulimia in unbelievable.

It's gone from being eye-catching to stomach-turning.

Look, I'm not saying this is what we're after:

Beth Ditto (Gossip)

That ain't selling me a lot of records either. But, you know...? Middle ground, people. Middle ground can be found.

Keep th' faith,
Dan

Radioheadcases

I'm a sucker for a good Radiohead mash-up, and by jove there's a few out there (some great, some dreadful). Here are a couple I've found which please me greatly.

First up: Panzah Zandahz with Ghostface Killa mashing up Iron Lung most effectively. This from an album of Radiohead mashups I found in the sadly passed on Chapel Market all night record store - Disque. This is the best track on the album 'Me and This Army'. Like the man says: "You got them big ass speakers and you can't turn it up? Turn that mothafucker up!"

Far more English, but none the less cool, Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip: 'Letter from God to Man'. A tad sanctimonious and 6th formy, but they loop the Planet Telex track nicely. After the shouting comes a mashed beat break down - that alone makes it all worthwhile.

If Dan le Sac and Scoobius Pip are new to you, check out Angles; better yet watch their hilarious X-Factor audition here:

Keep th' faith,
Dan

P.S. I was under the impression that Posterous would stream these tunes rather than offer them as downloads. Must be the iTunes format altering the offering. Apologies - not the instant experience I had hoped to give you.)
